Dublin Autism Friendly Capital City

The Lord Mayor of Dublin and Dublin City Council have committed to partner with AsIAm, Ireland’s Autism Charity, to work towards recognition as the world’s first Autism-Friendly Capital City.

This journey will involve the recruitment of “Autism-Friendly Champion” businesses, public services and voluntary organisations to improve accessibility in the city and also the creation of a 3 year plan for how Dublin can remove barriers for Autistic people having the same chance to live, work and play in our city. This plan will be drafted through direct engagement with Autistic people, family members and the wider community.

AUTISM CONSULTATION SESSIONS

The Lord Mayor hosted 4 consultation sessions, as part of this process, which provided YOU with an opportunity to have your say on what steps Dublin can take to bring about true inclusion for the at least 1 in 27 people in our community who are Autistic

Session Dates:

First Session: Thursday 22^nd February. 6.30pm to 8pm.

Second Session: Tuesday 19 March, 3pm to 4.30pm.

Third Session: Tuesday 26^th March, 11am to 12.30pm.

Fourth Session: Saturday 13^th April, 2pm to 3.30pm.

Where: Oak room, The Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2

What is an Autism-Friendly Champion?

An organisation/business within the town which signs- up to be part of the Autism-Friendly Towns programme

Depending on the size of the organisation, the required number of people undertake training as part of the initiative

The organisation commits to making small sensory, communication or predictability adaptations to improve accessibility for Autistic people

This information is displayed publicly in support of the initiative

On Monday, the 22nd, the Lord Mayor of Dublin welcomed over 50 organizations to the Mansion House for an informative session on becoming an Autism-Friendly Champion for Dublin

AUTISM-FRIENDLY EXPERIENCE OPEN DAY

As part of the journey to become an Autism Friendly City, various activities have been taking place in Dublin, including Autism-Friendly Public Consultation Sessions, Autism-Friendly Champions Informative Sessions, and Sensoria, the first Neurodivergent Friendly Festival in Ireland. To further promote Autism Awareness, we are inviting organizations to participate in this initiative by hosting an accessible experience for the Autistic Community on Saturday, May 25th.

Hosting an Autism-Friendly Experience Day provides a unique opportunity for organisations to demonstrate their commitment to diversity and inclusion. By opening your doors to Autistic people, you can help create a more welcoming and supportive environment for everyone in our community.

Participating in this initiative, organisations will have the opportunity to:

Learn about autism and gain insights into the experiences of Autistic people in Dublin City

Receive support and resources on how to create a more inclusive environment for employees and customers with autism.

Collaborate with the Lord Mayor of Dublin mission to become Dublin the first autism-friendly capital city in the world

Showcase your business as a leader in promoting diversity and inclusion.

In hosting the day, we will support organisations by:

Providing you with the necessary information to ensure your team can meaningfully meet the needs of Autistic people and families.

Advising on how to support families participating on the day, including the provision of sensory accommodations and a visual guide.

Identifying relevant activities or offerings that would be interesting, accessible experiences for the Autistic community.
